Students lock up bank staff

KOCHI, JULY 24. Students belonging to the Kerala Students Union (KSU) today locked up and sealed the office of the Indian Overseas Bank at the Padma Junction on the MG Road in the city in protest against the alleged denial of education loan to the engineering student, Rajani S. Anand, who committed suicide in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday.

Students, who came in a procession to the bank office locked up the entrance to the bank and sealed it. Some of the employees and customers who were inside escaped through the back door even as students sat shouting slogans at the sealed entrance. The police intervened and removed the protestors who began a dharna in front of the bank office.

Meanwhile, the All India Bank Officers' Confederation, Kerala State Committee, has demanded that those responsible for threatening bank employees and damaging bank offices in the wake of protests by students should be booked and stern action taken against them.
