THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: : Left student organisations have called off their ongoing agitation against the Centralised Allotment Process for admission to professional colleges in the State. This was announced by SFI State secretary T.V. Rajesh after a meeting with Education Minister E.T. Mohammed Basheer tonight. The blockade of the CAP is being called off as the Government has agreed that only Government fee would be charged for students who get admission to the merit seats in Government-run self-financing colleges. The Government has also agreed to call a meeting of managements of self-financing colleges to discuss the fee issue and had promised that it would lead an all-party delegation to the Centre to see to it that Kerala's self-financing law is placed in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution, he said.

Talking to presspersons, Mr. Basheer said the Government would "seriously consider" the question of charging Government fee from candidates who had already taken admission to Government self-financing medical colleges during the CAP.

While the AIDSO walked out of the meeting, the KSU called for an apology from the Left students' organisations for unleashing a violent agitation. Nothing new had been agreed upon in today's all-party meeting or in the meeting with the student leaders, it said.
