Southern Railway to run special trains

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Aug. 10. The Southern Railway will operate special trains between Chennai Central, Chennai Egmore and Mangalore and Thiruvananthapuram Central, Ernakulam and Palakkad junction from September 5 to 14 to clear the heavy rush during Onam. Advance reservation for these trains began on August 10.

According to the Southern Railway, the 0603 Chennai Central-Thiruvananthapuram Special will run on September 5, 7 and 9. The train will leave Chennai Central at 9-15 p.m. and reach Thiruvananthapuram Central at 4 p.m. the next day. In the return direction, the train (No. 0604) will leave Thiruvananthapuram Central at 8 p.m. on September 6, 8 and 10 and reach Chennai Central at 2 p.m. the next day. The trains will stop at Arakkonam, Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, Palakkad, Ottapalam, Thrissur, Aluva, Ernakulam Town, Kottayam, Chanagnacherry, Thiruvalla, Chengannur, Maveilikara, Kayamkulam and Kollam. In the return direction, the 0604 special train will stop at Perambur. The trains will have one AC two-tier coach, 10 sleeper class coaches and two general second class and two second class-cum-luggage van coaches.

The 0609 Chennai Egmore-Thiruvananthapuram Special will start at 8-30 p.m. on September 7 and 14 and reach Thiruvananthapuram Central at 2-30 p.m. the next day. The 0610 special train, in the return direction, will start at 4 p.m. on September 8 and 15 and reach Chennai Egmore at 8-35 a.m. the next day. Both the trains will stop at Tambaram, Chengilapattu, Villupuram, Vriddhacahalam, Tiruchi, Dindigul, Kodaikanal Road, Madurai, Virudhanagar, Kovilpatti, Vanchi Maniyachi, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil and Kuzhithurai. In the return direction, the 0610 train will stop at Mambalam also. These trains will have one AC two-tier, one AC three-tier, 10 sleeper class, four general second class and two second class-cum-luggage van coaches.

The 0605 Mangalore-Thiruvananthapuram Special will leave Mangalore at 10 p.m. on September 7 to reach Thiruvananthapuram Central at 12-40 noon the next day. In the return direction, the 0606 train will depart from Thiruvananthapuram at 7 p.m. on September 8 to reach Mangalore at 9-30 a.m. the next day. These trains will stop at Kasaragod, Kanhangad, Cheruvathur, Payyannur, Kannur, Thalasserry, Mahe, Vadakara, Koilandy, Kozhikode, Tirur, Kuttipuram, Shoranur, Thrissur, Aluva, Ernakulam Junction, Thuravur, Cherthala, Mararikulam, Alappuzha, Ambalappuzha, Haripad, Kayamkulam and Kollam. The special trains will have one AC two-tier, six sleeper class, five general second class and two second class-cum-luggage van coaches.

The 0607 Mangalore-Ernakulam Special will leave Mangalore at 7-15 p.m. on September 9 to reach Ernakulam at 4-50 a.m. the next day. In the return direction, the 0608 special train will leave Ernakulam at 11 p.m. on September 10 to reach Mangalore at 7-15 a.m. the next day. These trains will stop at Kasaragod, Kanhangad, Cheruvathur, Payyannur, Kannur, Thalasserry, Mahe, Vadakara, Koilandy, Kozhikode, Tirur, Kuttipuram, Shoranur, Thrissur and Aluva. Both the trains will have one AC two-tier coach, six sleeper class coaches and five general second class-cum-luggage van coaches.

The 0601 Chennai Central-Palakkad special train will leave Chennai Central at 8-45 p.m. on September 6 and 8 to reach Palakkad junction at 7 a.m. the next day. In the return direction, the 0602 train will leave Palakkad at 10-30 p.m. on September 7 and 9 and arrive at Chennai Central at 8-15 a.m. the next day. Both the trains will stop at Arakkonam, Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, Tirupur, Coimbatore and Podanur. In the return, the 0602 special train would stop at Perambur also.

The trains will have one AC two-tier coach, 10 sleeper class coaches, two general second class coaches and two second class-cum-luggage van coaches.
