Southern Railway chief visits Tirur

Southern Railway general manager Rakesh Misra visited Tirur Railway Station on Monday as part of his examination of the Shoranur-Mangalore route.

The Tirur Chamber of Commerce warmly welcomed the Southern Railway chief and asked him to provide stops for nine trains at the Tirur railway station

Chamber president P.A. Bava, general secretary P.P. Abdurahman, and executive member K.N. Ganesan said that several trains were passing through Malappuram without having any stop in the district.

This was despite the district having the largest population in the State.

They said trains such as Mangalore-Jammu Tawi Navyug Express (16687/16688), Kochuveli-Chandigarh Kerala Sampark Kranti Express (12217/12218), Kochuveli-Dehradun Express (12287/12288), Tirunalveli-Hapa Express (12997/12998), Rajadhani Express (12431/12432), Amritsar Express (12483/12484), Tirunalveli-Dadar Express (22629/22630), Coimbatore-Bikaner Express (22475/22476), and Thiruvananthapuram-Nizamuddin Express (22633/22634 new train) should be provided two-minute stop at Tirur.

They also said that a foot over-bridge should be constructed at the centre of the station.

Additional roofing should also be provided to cover the extended platforms, they said.
