SNMHSS leads in youth fete

KOCHI: SNMHSS, Moothakunnam, leads the point tally at the Ernakulam District Higher Secondary Schools Youth Festival when results of 29 events were declared on Wednesday evening.

The school won 37 points when the organisers announced the results at 9 p.m. City schools were also in the race for top honours on the second day of the youth festival.

St. Teresa's Convent GHSS was second with 34 points. Sacred Heart HSS, Thevara, was third with 33 points. Stage events were the major highlight of the festival on Wednesday.

Competitions were held for events including Ottanthullal; Poorakali; Parichamottukali; Margamkali; Bharatanatyam; Kuchipudi; Drama (Malayalam); Mono Act; Kathaprasangam; Recitation (Malayalam); Aksharaslokam; Kavyakeli; Classical Music; Light Music; Recitation (Arabic); and Mappilapattu.

Mohan (St. Joseph HSS, Thripunitura); Pencil Drawing: Sanjaykumar V (Sacred Heart HSS, Thevara); Cartoon: Abhilash K.K. (SNHSS, Cherai); Clay Modelling: Vinish M.S. (NSSHSS, Parakdavu); Collage: Melbin Mathew (St. Joseph HSS, Paingottur); Oil Colour: Sanoop E.C. (SDPY HSS, Palluruthy); Essay Writing (English): Rehna Rajendran (Nirmala HSS, Muvattupuzha); Malayalam: Salini S. Nair (Nirmala HSS, Muvattupuzha); Sanskrit: Nithishkumar (SNDPHSS, Udayamperur).

Organising committee officials said that efforts would be made to stick to the programme schedule.

Food was provided to participants and teachers at Anakadu Buildings near the main venue.

The estimate budget of this edition of the festival is Rs.5.31 lakh.

The Higher Secondary Department earmarked Rs.2 lakh for the conduct of the festival.

The remaining amount will be collected from students in more than 170 schools in the district.

On Thursday, competitions will be held in events like Mohiniyattom; Folk Dance; Group Dance; Arabanamuttu; Duffmuttu; Kolkali; Oppana; Drama (English); Mime; Skit; Chenda; Madhalam; Chendamelam; Panchavadhyam; Patriotic Song; Light Music (Girls); Elocution (English, Malayalam); Recitation (English); Group Song; Elocution (Hindi); Recitation (Hindi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Kannada, Urdu).
