Sex racket: probe `not satisfactory'

KOTTAYAM, OCT. 7. The Kerala Mahila Sanghom has demanded that the investigation into the Kiliroor sex scandal be entrusted with a more competent authority.

The investigation into the case was without any seriousness, said the Sanghom president, Meenakshi Thampan, here today.

Even the Kerala High Court had expressed displeasure showed how the investigation was conducted so far, she said.

Alleging that there was a deliberate attempt on the part of the investigating officers to limit the scope of the case to a few individuals, she said the police was showing criminal negligence in bringing the real culprits to book. The lack of interest may point to the involvement of higher ups and the real extend of the operation of the sex racket, she said. The culprits were hiding safe with the full knowledge of the investigating officers. The fifth accused, Latha Nair, had moved about freely before she moved the anticipatory bail plea, she said.

She wanted the police to look into the circumstances that led to discharging the victim from Government Medical College Hospital, though she was in a very serious condition after an infection following delivery.

Ms. Thampan wanted the police to find who were bearing the cost of treatment of the victim now at a private hospital.See also Page 4
