Seminar on eco-tourism

PATHANAMTHITTA: Food and Civil Supplies Minister Adoor Prakash will inaugurate the one-day seminar on eco-tourism being organised by the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) here on Saturday.

According to DTPC secretary V. Santhosh Kumar, the seminar is part of the `Eco-Kerala, Kerala Tourism Eco-Initiative' programme launched by the Tourism Department. The programme aims at promoting sustainable and eco-friendly tourism.

The Tourism Department has envisaged an Eco-Certification Scheme to grade each sub-sector in the tourism sector, based on their eco-friendliness and it will be introduced first in the hospitality sector.

K.K. Nair, MLA, will preside over the inaugural function to be held at 9 a.m. at Mannil Regency conference hall on Saturday. District panchayat president S. Santhakumari will deliver the keynote address. Municipal chairperson Amrutham Gokulan and District Tourism Information Officer S. Sathidevi will address the function.
