`Rival fronts plotting against quota for minorities'

KOLLAM, MARCH 11. The Muslim Employees' Cultural Association (MECA) has alleged that the Left and United Democratic Fronts were conspiring with each other in the Assembly to deny minorities their Constitutional rights.

In a statement here today, the State unit president of the association, M.A. Samad, said that under the guise of holding talks to reach an agreement on the issue of such rights, the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, was, in fact, cheating the minority communities.

Except for the Janata Dal and the Janathipathya Samrakshana Samiti, other political parties had opposed special recruitment for minorities to fill up backlog vacancies in Government jobs. Though the Communist Party of India demanded reservation in the private sector, it had not made its stand clear on the reservation issue.
