KOLLAM: KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala said here on Thursday that the returning officer for the Indian Youth Congress (YC) election would be declared on Friday.

Inaugurating a leadership training camp of the Youth Congress here on Thursday, he said henceforth the Youth Congress cadres would elect and decide who will be their leaders.

Groupism had rendered the Congress in Kerala weak. After K. Karunakaran had left the Congress with the `I' group, the party had become an appreciably united entity.

The results of the Thiruvananthapuram bypoll showed that Mr. Karunakaran's exit had resulted in more support for the Congress from the voters. He said the priority of the UDF Government was to improve the standard of living of the people.

The UDF would go ahead with the declared cut in power tariff. For those below the poverty line, a fine quality rice for Rs.3 a kg would soon be distributed through ration shops.

Mr. Chennithala said the UDF Government had inherited a bankrupt exchequer from the previous LDF Government. One of the biggest achievements of the UDF Government was that it had managed to redeem the exchequer from bankruptcy.

DCC president Sooranad Rajashekaran addressed the camp and district president of the Youth Congress P. Jeremias presided.
