Residents' help sought to check crime

KOCHI, AUG. 14. The City Police Commissioner, Dhinendra Kashyap, has called for better interaction with the public on a one-to-one basis to tackle problems in maintaining law and order.

Speaking at a meeting of police personnel and representatives of residents' associations in the city, Mr. Kashyap said that the police would welcome help from the citizens to check crimes in the city. The meeting had been called by the Commissioner.

It was decided that a monthly meeting would be held every second Saturday to get first-hand information about law and order problems in the city.

A booklet containing tips and guidelines to prevent crime was released on the occasion. All Assistant Commissioners and Circle Inspectors in the city attended the meeting along with 100-odd representatives of various residents' associations.

Many residents pointed out the lack of police patrolling in sensitive areas like bus stands and railway stations.
