Projects to help artisans find employment

KOZHIKODE, AUG. 14. The District Industries Centre (DIC) has chalked out a set of semi-engineering projects to assist traditional artisans and carpenters find employment opportunities on a cluster basis, with assistance from the Federal Bank.

The projects are being implemented through the Prime Minister's Rojgar Yojna (PMRY).

According to the DIC sources, the initiative comes in the backdrop of the widespread unemployment among traditional artisans such as coppersmiths, goldsmiths and carpenters. These three categories of skilled workers form a group under the Vishwakarma Sabha.

The import of products manufactured by these artisans is reportedly one of the reasons why a sizeable number of them are out of employment.
