Police gear up for Sabarimala season

PATHANAMTHITTA Nov. 13. With only three days left for the beginning of the annual Mandalam-Makaravilakku pilgrim season at Sabarimala, the Police Department has made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the pilgrim season.

The District Superintendent of Police, P. Sreenivasan, told The Hindu that a 650-strong police force would be deployed at Pampa and Sannidhanam during the first phase of the pilgrim season from November 15 to 29.

K. Surendran, Superintendent of Police at the Computer Cell in Thiruvananthapuram, will be the police special officer at Pampa and T. Chandran, Superintendent of Police, CBCID, Thiruvananthapuram, will be the special officer at Sannidhanam for the first phase.

According to Mr Sreenivasan, five Dy.SPs, 20 circle inspectors, 45 sub-inspectors and 440 constables would be deployed at Sannidhanam.

Similarly, 210 constables, 16 sub-inspectors, six circle inspectors and two Dy.SPs will be deployed at Pampa in the first phase.

The Inspector General of Police, V.R. Rajeevan, and the Additional Inspector General, Shekharan Miniyodan, will be the police coordinators for Sabarimala during the ensuing pilgrim season.

Sarju Prasad and Gopinathan Nair have been posted as the sub-inspectors at the temporary police stations at Sannidhanam and Vadasserikkara, Mr. Sreenivasan said.
