Plea to release funds for city development

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM OCT. 5. A meeting of people's representatives, department heads and social and cultural organisations here today appealed to the Government to sanction Rs.10 crores as supplementary demand for grants for development of the capital city in the current year's budget.

The meeting chaired by V.S. Sivakumar, MP, decided to urge the Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, to seek Central assistance for city development projects by sending a delegation of elected representatives from the district. It also resolved to convene a meeting to discuss projects for the Vizhinjam harbour and development of the IT and tourism sectors.

A two-day workshop involving architects and technical experts will be held to finalise the blueprint for development of the city.

The Ministers, G. Karthikeyan and M.M. Hassan, the MLAs, B. Vijayakumar, K. Mohankumar, the Planning Board member, C.P. John, and representatives of various political parties and organisations participated.
