Over 36,000 children enter world of letters in Thrissur district

A district-level meeting was held at the Government Mappila Higher Secondary School at Chamakkala, near here, on Monday to mark re-opening of schools.

V.S. Sunil Kumar, MLA, inaugurated the meeting.

District Panchayat President K.V. Dasan; Education Standing Committee chairman V.K. Shahu Haji; and Deputy Director of Education S.M. Noorjehan; were present.

Akshara Kairali, a project for development of infrastructure in schools and improvement of English teaching, was inaugurated at Kodungalloor.

The government has sanctioned 6 kg of rice for each child for a noon meal scheme. Around 4.25 lakh students from the first to tenth standard attended classes in 959 schools in the district on Monday.

Over 36,000 joined the first standard.

The exact number of students who enrolled in different classes would be available only after June 14, according to the Deputy Director of Education.
