A Special Temple Anti-Theft Squad (STATS) probing a case related to the missing of a pendant from Ambalapuzha Sree Krishna Swami Temple arrested a 57-year-old person on Wednesday.

The arrested was identified as Viswanathan alias Kaliyappan, Chalakkadu House, Upputhura, Idukki district. Sources said that the accused was residing at the temple premises for the last six years.

The antique gold ornament belonging to the temple was found missing last year. Later, it was recovered from the donation box on May 23, 2017 in a broken state. Initially, the case was probed by local police before handing it over to the Crime Branch. With hardly any progress being made, a member of the devotees outfit Karma Sena, moved the Kerala High Court seeking a detailed probe into the theft. Court on September 15, handed the case over to STATS.

The probe has been led by STATS Circle Inspector R. Rajesh.
