Officials to meet Chandy to solve waste problem

An all-party delegation led by Alappuzha Municipality chairperson Mercy Diana Macido, along with Union Minister of State for Power K.C. Venugopal, will visit Chief Minister Ooomen Chandy on Monday evening to seek the State government's help in sanctioning the Rs.2 crore project to tackle the waste problem in the municipality.

The delegation comprises, among others, municipality vice-chairman B. Ansari; municipality opposition leader Thomas Joseph; LDF parliamentary leader V.G. Vishnu; health standing committee chairperson M.G. Sathidevi; and MLAs from the district. Ms. Macido said the proposal to address waste problems in the municipality will be submitted to the Chief Minister.

The waste from the municipality was being dumped near a waste processing plant at Sarvodayapuram in Mararikulam south grama panchayat, where the public have been protesting for nearly a month.
