No water, and Marad family goes back

KOZHIKODE AUG. 10. One Muslim family that returned to their home at Chulliyamvalappil on the outskirts of Marad this afternoon left the place in the evening for want of drinking water.

The District Collector, T.O. Sooraj, said that the family had promised to come back two days later.

The family comprising Ummer, his wife, sister-in-law and one child came to their house at Marad from the Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS).

The family had left Marad after the May 2 massacre fearing reprisals.

The family had been drawing water from the nearby well of Hindu families before the May 2 violence.

But today, they could not get water as somebody had reportedly threatened the Hindu families from providing them with water.

The Marad Araya Samajam had earlier at a press conference said that they would have no problem in Muslim families returning on their own.

The Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO), P. Balan, would hold talks with the Marad Araya Samajam leaders to facilitate the rehabilitation process.

The district administration was hoping to set in the rehabilitation process by the end of this month.
