New water policy to be tabled in next session

Thiruvananthapuram: A comprehensive water policy for Kerala drafted by the Kozhikode-based Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM) would be tabled in the next session of the Assembly, Water Resources Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said on Saturday.

Addressing reporters after a meeting of the State Water Resources Council chaired by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, he said the new policy was aimed at protecting the State's interests while dealing with inter-State water disputes.

Many national water bodies were giving verdicts against the State's interests on water disputes.

The new policy would be discussed in the Assembly and published to elicit the views of the people, he said.

The Minister said the State Dam Safety Authority Act would also be brought in the coming Assembly session. On water disputes with Tamil Nadu, he said the two States were no longer on a confrontationist path. - PTI
