New Kollam Collector takes charge

KOLLAM: Raju Narayanaswamy took charge as Collector of Kollam on Wednesday.

He succeeds B. Sreenivas, who was given a send off at the collectorate conference hall by the staff of the civil station.

The new Collector said that his office and residence would remain open to the public for airing their grievances.

Mr. Narayanaswamy had served as District Collector of Thrissur and Kasaragod earlier. An engineer from the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, Mr. Narayanaswamy is the author of 20 books.

He belongs to the 1989 batch of the Indian Administrative Service. He said he would give priority to solve the problems of common man.

In his address, Mr. Sreenivas said the district was facing a serious environment degradation problem caused by the illegal sand-mining.

If steps were not taken to arrest the situation, Kollam would soon be in a bad shape, he said.
