Nayanar knocks on leader's door

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Nov. 9. The former Chief Minister and CPI(M) Politburo member, E. K. Nayanar, today called on the senior Congress leader, K. Karunakaran, soliciting subscription for the party paper, Deshabhimani.

The two were closeted together for roughly half-an- hour giving rise to media speculation that much more than pleasantries were exchanged between the two veteran leaders.

Mr. Nayanar arrived at Mr. Karunakaran's place accompanied by the former Speaker and CPI(M) Thiruvananthapuram district secretary, M. Vijayakumar. Both Mr. Nayanar and Mr. Karunakaran seemed to enjoy the media attention and indulged in some evasive quibbling in the face of close questioning by mediapersons.

While Mr. Nayanar took the stand that he could not divulge what he had discussed with Mr. Karunakaran, the Congress leader was more forthcoming and said he had discussed with Mr. Nayanar how the Additional DGP (Crime), M. G. A. Raman's visit to his place the other day to invite him to his (Mr. Raman's) daughter's wedding had given rise to unnecessary media speculations.
