Nambi Narayanan discharged of charges

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM OCT. 28. The Principal Sessions Judge, E. K. Muralidharan, today discharged the former ISRO scientist, Nambi Narayanan, of defamation charges filed against him by the State Government.

The State had filed a defamation case against Nambi Narayanan, who figured as accused in the sensational ISRO spy scandal, on the charges that he had made libellous statements against some police officials who probed him in connection with the alleged spy case.

The case in which Nambi Narayanan was discharged was one of the few cases in which the State had filed a defamation case on the grounds that an induvidual had made libellous statements against its officials.

The court found that there were no sufficient grounds to frame a charge of defamation against the scientist.

Seven persons, including a former Director General of Police, was examined in connection with the case.
