Much ado about nothing

The removal of Opposition leader V. S. Achuthanandan from the post of the editor-in-chief of Deshabimani, the CPI (M) organ, has become a much-debated topic in the city. The official explanation was that Achuthanandan was relieved so that he could focus more on his immediate duties as the Leader of the Opposition and that the newspaper needed a full time editor-in-chief.

Many regional dailies have made much of the development and have linked it to the alleged power tussle between what is described as "two factions" in the party. Achuthanandan, who was seen in public several times after the development, seemed to be his usual self. The CPI (M) has maintained that newspapers are making much ado about nothing.
