Moratorium on farm loans sought

KOCHI, JULY 24. The Kerala Pradesh Karshaka Congress Committee president, T.H. Musthafa, has demanded moratorium on all loans taken by farmers.

At a press conference here today, he said the recently announced moratorium on farms loans did not fully solve the problems being faced by the farmers. They are driven to suicide because of the increase in the production cost and the wrong import policies of the Central Government.

The farmers in Wayanad are taking their lives because of the fall in the price of coffee and cardamom. Apart from a crop insurance scheme, he demanded introduction of an insurance scheme for the farmers and their families, Mustafa said.

He demanded implementation of the scheme formulated in 1994-95 by the then UDF Government for giving the youth employment in the farm sector.
