Media syndicate bid to defame CPI(M), says Pinarayi Vijayan

ALAPPUZHA: A media syndicate sponsored by the KPCC is working overtime to destroy the CPI(M) in the State, alleged CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi

Vijayan.

Inaugurating the newly constructed local committee office of the CPI(M) at Vayalar in the district on Saturday, Mr. Vijayan said the media was trying

to create a wrong impression that the CPI(M) was facing a crisis.

Mr. Vijayan alleged that a section of the media was publishing false reports saying that the Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan was being hounded in the party. The reports were a part of a secret move, he alleged.

He observed that though the media had been attacking the party by concocting lies, the party had been restrained in its behaviour towards the media.

Mr. Vijayan said that the marches being taken out in various parts of the State proclaiming support for Mr. Achuthanandan were not organised by CPI(M) workers. Workers of the UDF and anti-social elements were behind these marches, he alleged.

Mr. Vijayan said the Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) decided on who should contest the elections. It will decide on who should become the Chief Minister. The norm in the CPI(M) was to decide the Chief Minister after the elections, he said.

It was in special circumstances that the party had decided to make Nayanar the Chief Minister in 1996, though he had not contested the elections,

Mr. Vijayan said. Contesting an election was not a big thing as far as the CPI (M) was considered, he said.

CPI(M) central committee member M.A. Baby and T.M. Thomas Isaac, MLA, spoke. CPI(M) Alappuzha district secretary G. Sudhakaran presided.
