As part of the Left Democratic Front government’s first anniversary celebrations, the Fisheries Department is organising a Matsyotsavam and seafood festival at the Cantonment Maidan here from May 27 to 29.
The festival will also comprise an adalat for taking up various problems of the fisherfolk. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the programme. The adalat will be led by Minister for Fisheries J. Mercykutty Amma. There will be nine counters at the adalat venue to accept complaints. Top officers from the Fisheries Department, Matsyafed, and related departments will be present.
The adalat will be held on the first day. The programmes on the second day will comprise a gathering of fish farmers, distribution of various benefits for the fishing community, seminars related to the fishing sector, and cultural programmes.
The seafood court will function on all three days. Apart from that there will be an exhibition of ornamental fish.
Similar seafood festivals will be conducted in Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Malappuram, and Kozhikode. Entry to the festival is free. The festival will be open from 9 a.m. to 9.30 p.m.
