Maritime Academy next year

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 17. A Maritime Academy would be set up at Valiyathura under the Cooperative Academy for Professional Education next year, the Cooperation Minister, M. V. Raghavan, has said.

Mr. Raghavan told Pirappancode Murali in a written reply that the Government had sought the permission of the Director-General of Shipping to start the academy. On commissioning, the academy would start a four-month seamen's course for SSLC students. Steps had been taken to hand over 1.90 acres of land of the Ports Department to CAPE for setting up the academy. Permission to start the course would be given only in May, he said. The academy needs 2.5 acres of land and now the Government was trying to start the academy next year, Mr. Raghavan said.

In reply to another question to K. Mohankumar, the Public Works Minister, M.K. Muneer, said that work on the first phase of the civil station at Kudapanakunnu would be completed in 2007.
