Thiruvananthapuram: The city police on Wednesday arrested a 47-year-old man on charges of impersonation as a police officer.

According to the police, Satyaseelan, a native of Manacaud, used to pose as a Crime Branch police officer. His modus operandi was to approach a lone commuter at a bus stand or railway station and tell him that he was wanted for questioning in a case. He would then carry out a body search of his victim and deprive him of his purse and mobile phone before asking him to report to the nearby police station.

Thampanoor SI Sheen Tharayil said Satyaseelan also used to book himself into hotels under the name of Hashim or Satyan saying he was a CID officer. After staying for two days, he would scoot without paying the bill.

Satyaseelan was nabbed on Wednesday after the police received a tip-off from a lodge at Thampanoor. A dairy containing the telephone number of several police officers was recovered from Satyaseelan's possession.
