‘Suraiya's works asserted feminine identity'

Cultural Affairs Minister M.A. Baby has said that Kamala Suraiya's works are an assertion of feminine identity in a world that suppresses women. He was addressing a meeting to lay the foundation for the Kamala Suraiya Memorial Cultural Complex at Punnayurkulam on Thursday. “Her works fought for human emancipation and individual freedom,” he said. Kerala Sahitya Akademi president P. Valasala, writer Sukumar Azhikode and Suraiya's sister Sulochana Nalapat were present.

The complex is being constructed on 31.5 cents of land, including 17 cents given to the akademi by Kamala Suraiya and 10.5 cents donated by K.G. Sukumaran.
