LDF plea for AIIMS-model institute in Kasaragod

July 20, 2018 12:00 am | Updated 05:17 am IST - KASARAGOD

The district unit of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) on Thursday reiterated its demand for setting up the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-model institute proposed for the State in Kasaragod.

The issue was discussed at a district committee meeting of the LDF during the day. The meeting underscored the need to set up a state-of-the-art medical institute like the AIIMS in Kasaragod.

The plight of families of endosulfan victims were discussed at the meeting, with many front leaders highlighting the need of an expert medical institute that could take care of the complex health issues of the victims here.

Unlike other parts of the State, Kasaragod does not have a medical college since it came into existence in 1984.

There was abundant revenue land in the district and the LDF government should take steps to set up the proposed hospital in Kasaragod, the leaders said.

The meeting was chaired by Communist Party of India district secretary Govindan Pallikappil.

CPI(M) district secretary M.V. Balakrishnan and leaders of other LDF constituents addressed the meeting.

An all-party delegation will be visiting New Delhi on July 24 to raise the issue with the Vice President, Prime Minister, and officials of the Health and Human Resource Development ministries.
