Land distributed to 78 persons in Payippra

KOCHI, AUG. 21 . A total of 3.12 acres of surplus land was distributed to 78 landless persons in Payippra panchayat in Muvattupuzha taluk on Saturday.

Each of the beneficiaries will receive four cents of land at Manar in Mulavoor village in Payippra panchayat.

Draw of lots

The beneficiaries were selected from more than 600 applicants by a draw of lots.

All the 34 applicants belonging to the SC/ST category were given the land without drawing lots.

The decision was taken by a meeting held at the Collectorate today presided over by the District Collector, A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, in the presence of Johnny Nelloor, MLA, the Muvattupuzha municipal chairman, K.K. Jayaprakash, the Payippra panchayat president, Payippra Krishnan, the Deputy Collector (Land and Revenue) P. Rajeswari, the Muvattupuzha Additional Tahsildar, Abdul Aziz, the Deputy Tahsildar, P.V. Paulin, the Mulavoor Village Officer Bharathi and other officials.

The last time the surplus land distribution had taken place in the district was five years ago and all the applicants had given the applications in 1999.

The land taken over for distribution comes to about 3 acres and 80 cents, out of which the area for roads and other amenities has also been earmarked.

The date for the formal handing over of the title deeds will be announced later.
