Konni eco-tourism project launched

PATHANAMTHITTA, DEC. 6. The Forest Minister, K.P. Viswanathan, and the Tourism Minister, K.C. Venugopal, launched the Konni Eco- tourism Project at the Elephant Camp in Konni today.

In his inaugural address, Mr. Viswanathan said that the project will be completed in four phases in the next 18 months.

Mr. Venugopal said that the Tourism Department will launch a Konni-Thekkady tourism circuit via Gavi and Kochu Pampa as part of the project.

He said that the department has already allotted Rs. 50 lakhs for the Konni eco-tourism project and that its first phase will be implemented at the Elephant Camp.

Presiding over the inaugural meet, the Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Adoor Prakash, said that the project will help in overall development of the interior areas of Konni.

The Eco-tourism Director, K.G. Mohanlal, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, R.P. Sarma, the Tourism Director, T.O. Sooraj, the District Collector, Rabeendra Kumar Agarwal, and the District Panchayat president, K.K. Royson, also spoke.
