KC factions soften stand on seats

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 26. The Pillai and Jacob factions of the Kerala Congress, allies of the ruling UDF in Kerala, today almost gave up their demand for allocation of two Lok Sabha seats to them from the Congress' kitty.

The KC (B) leader, R. Balakrishna Pillai, told reporters that his party would not press its claim for the Adoor Lok Sabha seat, while the KC(J) chairman, Johny Nelloor, said his party was not interested in creating problems in the UDF for a seat.

Meanwhile, leaders of the Communist Marxist Party (CMP), another UDF ally, indicated that the party would soon decide on its earlier claim for a seat.

The UDF high-power committee could not complete the seat-sharing exercise yesterday as the minor allies stuck to their demands for a seat each.

The Congress is keen to contest 17 of the 20 seats in the State as it did last time. The IUML had been allotted two seats while the KC-M one. _ PTI
