Karshaka Cong. denies change in leadership

KOLLAM March 30. A recent Delhi-based report that the Congress leader, T.H. Musthafa, MLA, has been appointed the new president of the Kerala Pradesh Karshaka Congress (KPKC) has been termed by its leaders as ``bogus''.

In a complaint sent to the AICC president, Sonia Gandhi, 17 KPKC leaders alleged that Mr. Musthafa, taking advantage of the bed-ridden condition of the KPKC State president, Joseph Monippally, released such a news item soon after his appointment as a coordinator of the Kissan and Kheth Mazdoor Cell, an entity which has no unit in Kerala.

The signatories to the complaint included the KPKC State vice-presidents, Alexander Zacharias and Divarakan Kanath, the general secretaries, K.G. Ravi, M.C. Jose and Lal Varghese, and several district presidents and State committee members.

The signatories brought to the attention of Ms. Gandhi that the appointment of the KPKC president and other office-bearers, as per an ad hoc constitution, was always done by the KPCC and that the present president, Mr. Monippally, had also been appointed in this manner.
