The project report had been prepared and submitted by the State Government. The president of the NMCC, K. Thrivikraman, said in the representation that the proposed airport would open up tremendous opportunities for business and trade activities of the region including exports of handloom, spices, marine products and wood-based products. The airport would also boost the tourism potential of the region, he said adding that it would also benefit the Ezhimala Naval Academy being set up here.

The representation said that the proposed airport would put no financial liability on the Central Government as it was proposed to be set up in the private sector, he said.
