Kalamassery row takes a new turn

KOCHI, OCT. 11. The row over the refusal of the Kalamassery Municipal Chairman, Jamal Manakkadan, to resign from his post despite an order from the KPCC bosses has taken a new turn with a section of the ruling Front councillors deciding to launch a protest against Mr. Manakkadan.

Three councillors refused to share the dais with the municipal chairman at a function organised at Kanagarappady on Monday. The councillors M. Nandakumar (the Works Committee chairman), M.B. Prakash (the Development Committee chairman) and M.M. Alikunju (Health and Education Committee chairman) were among those who refused to share the dais with Mr. Manakkadan.

Earlier, these members of the municipal council had handed over their resignation letters to the District Congress president, K.P. Dhanapalan, in protest against Mr. Manakkadan continuing to be the chief of the municipal council. However, the resignations were not accepted.
