IT raids at hospitals, doctors' houses

KOCHI, OCT. 7. Sleuths of the Income Tax Department raided some hospitals and doctors' residences in the city today, to unearth undisclosed income and wealth.

Informed department sources said the raids were continuing in the city and in suburbs like Tripunithura and Aluva. The raids are being carried out by 100 personnel at 20 premises. These include a few hospitals in the heart of the city and the houses of doctors.

Additional personnel were brought in from the other districts for carrying out the raids, which have been focused in Kochi.

A minimum of four personnel was required to raid a house and at least 20 for a hospital, the sources said.

The outcome of the raids is uncertain as it will take a day or two for cross-checking and ascertaining the documents and other materials which have been seized.

Houses, buildings, luxury items and valuables found in the possession of doctors will be brought under the scanner to identify the source of income. Computers in hospitals too are being checked for details of cash receipts.
