IRDP fair opens

THRISSUR, AUG. 21. The Minister for Rural Development, C.F. Thomas, today inaugurated the State-level exhibition-cum-sale of products made by various units and individual beneficiaries associated with the IRDP and SGSY schemes.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said it was possible to provide employment to another 50,000 people in the rural areas through the small enterprises. Already 40,000 persons had been given employment through such industries during the last three years. Pointing out that the main problem confronting the units being run by the self-help groups was marketing, the Minister said the State Government was trying to find a long-term solution for it.

Permanent outlet

The former Speaker, Therambil Ramakrishnan, MLA, in his presidential address said efforts were on to set up a permanent outlet for the products from rural enterprises within a year in the city in collaboration with the district panchayat and Thrissur Corporation.
