Holiday for schools

KOCHI: All Government and aided educational institutions in the district will remain closed on Thursday as part of the State mourning for the former Chief Minister and CPI leader P.K. Vasudevan Nair.

All CBSE Schools in the State will remain closed on Thursday, according to T.P.M. Ibrahim Khan, president of the Kerala CBSE Schools Managements Association.

All schools of the Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan and Chinmaya Vidyalaya will also remain closed due to the public mourning, according to the school authorities. However, the Kendriya Vidyalayas will function as usual, as the State Government's holiday declaration will not be applicable for the central schools, said the District Collector.

Functions postponed

The graduation ceremony and lamp lighting ceremony of the School of Nursing, Cochin Port Trust Hospital, that had been scheduled to be held at the Merchant Navy Club Auditorium, Willingdon Island, on Thursday, has been cancelled. The State unit of the All India Lawyers Union (AILU) has postponed the march to be taken out to the Kerala High Court on Friday, according to N.A. Ali, general secretary, AILU.

The Malayalam drama, `Kathivannur Veeran,' slated to be staged on Thursday evening by the Kerala Fine Arts Society at the Fine Arts Hall has been postponed to July 20, according to the Fine Arts Society secretary T.P. Ramesh.

The LLB group discussion and interview of the School of Legal Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology, slated to be held on Thursday has been postponed to Saturday, according to an official release. The interview will begin at 9.30 a.m. on Saturday. The meeting of Junior Red Cross councillors and High School representatives being organised by the Indian Red Cross Society on Thursday at the Red Cross Hall at Ernakulam General Hospital has been postponed to July 21.
