Govt.'s `secret pact' exposed: CPI(M)

KOZHIKODE OCT.13. The CPI(M) State secretary, Pinarayi Vijayan, has accused the Chief Minister, A.K. Antony of colluding with the Sangh Parivar on the issue of rehabilitating the displaced Muslim families at Marad.

Addressing a news conference here today, Mr. Vijayan alleged that Mr. Antony had agreed to a secret pact with the RSS not to rehabilitate the families of the accused in the May 2 massacre. That was why the mainstream secular parties had been deliberately kept out the talks held in Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram.

After the parleys held in Thiruvananthapuram, it was announced that the rehabilitation of all the families would commence soon. But now the hidden agenda hat the families of the accused would not be resettled at Marad had come to light.

It also revealed that the secret pact was being implemented in return for the votes transferred by the Sangh Parivar cadres in favour of the Congress nominee in the Ernakulam Lok Sabha by-poll, he charged.

Like all other people, the families of the accused had every right to live in the violence-ravaged areas. Even the accused had the right to stay at their place, he said.

Mr. Vijayan said that the policies of the UDF Government were being influenced by the Sangh Parivar. It was also strange that the Indian Union Muslim League, the second largest constituent in the UDF, was maintaining a stoic silence on the issue.

He said the solidarity committee comprising the district-level leadership of the UDF and the LDF would convene a meeting here on October 15 to initiate steps for rehabilitating the families of the accused.

The meeting would be attended by the IUML district leaders also. IUML leaders had also participated in the meeting held in Kozhikode on October 7, he added.
