THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The BJP State general secretary, K. Raman Pillai, said here on Saturday that politicians and those connected to them were behind the encroachment of Government land at Vagamon.

He was addressing a press conference here. Mr. Raman Pillai said that present Government as well as the previous Government had failed to stop the encroachment. About 200 acres of land had been encroached upon at Vagamon.

He said that the BJP activists would take possession of the encroached land in a symbolic way at the end of its march to Vagamon on Sunday. The State president, P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, would lead the march. The State secretary, P.K. Krishnadas and other State leaders would attend the march, he added.

Mr. Raman Pillai said the party would take out a similar march to the tribal land taken over by private parties at Athirappally in Thrissur district. The authorities were yet to restore the land of the tribals of the region. He said the Government had undermined the takeover of the Halcyon Palace from the M Far Hotel Group at Kovalam. He said that the Government had been aiding the hotel group.
