Garbage disposal, a problem in Kasaragod

The threat of an epidemic outbreak is looming over the town, which now has garbage heaps in various prime spots. The municipal authorities are yet to end the stalemate over their clearing.

The problem cropped up when residents of Kelugude, where waste used to be dumped in 90 cents for years, recently came out in open against further dumping there, citing serious health concerns. Residents under the aegis of Kelugude action committee boycotted two all-party meetings convened by the municipality last month to find a solution.

Municipal chairperson T.E. Abdulla said that yet another round of talks would be held after the District Collector, who is away on a visit to the capital city, returned on Tuesday. “We expect to solve the issue amicably and seek cooperation from all sections of society,” Mr. Abdulla said.
