Former DGP M.K. Joseph dead

Thiruvananthapuram: The former Director General of Police M.K. Joseph passed away here on Sunday evening. He was 74. Mr. Joseph had been admitted to a private hospital a few days back after he had taken ill. He is survived by two sons.

An IPS officer of the 1954 batch, Mr. Joseph was a man of many parts, with interests ranging from sports and theatre to journalism. During his career spanning 35 years, he served as Inspector General of Police (Intelligence and Railways), Director of Vigilance investigation, IG of Police (Law and Order) and the DGP. He was also appointed commission to study and recommend service conditions, including welfare measures for police personnel. The mortal remains will be kept at the police headquarters from 10 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. and later at the Chandrasekharan Nair stadium, for the public to pay homage. The last rites and the burial will be held at Kanjirappally.
