Flag hoisted for Pooram festival

THRISSUR, APRIL 24. The celebrations in connection with Thrissur Pooram began with the ceremonial `kodiyettam' (hoisting of flag) at the Paramekkavu and Thiruvambadi temples here on Saturday.

The tantri, Puliyannur Kunjaniyan Namboodiripad, officiated the ceremony in the Thiruvambadi temple. The ceremony at the Paramekkavu temple was supervised by Puliyannur Anujan Namboodiripad and Krishnan Namboodiripad.

The `ezhunnallippu' of the idols of the Goddess followed. The elephants, Thiruvambadi Sivasundar and Paramekkavu Sreeparameswaran, carried the idols. `Kodiyettam' ceremonies were also held at the temples at Ayyanthole, Laloor, Neythalakkavu, Chembukkavu, Kanimangalam, Panamukkampilli and Kaaramukku, as part of `Cheru Pooram' celebrations.

Cheerangattu Purushothaman Namboodiri and Pazhangamparampil Raman Namboodiri supervised the ceremonies at the Laloor and Ayyanthole temples.

Thrissur Pooram falls on April 30.
