Five-member gang held

Thiruvananthapuram, March 24. The Kazhakkuttom police have arrested five youth suspected to be responsible for several crimes, including chain snatching and dacoity, in the district.

The Sub-Inspector, Kazhakkuttom, K.M. Prasad, identified the accused as Kunjumon, 18, Rijan, 24, Augustine, 18, Sujith, 18, Renjith, 22, and Shiju, 22.

The police said more than five instances of waylaying motorists and pedestrians on the National Highway by-pass at night have been traced back to the accused. They were produced before the court and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody.

Eight arrested

The Kazhakkuttom police on Wednesday night arrested eight employees of various Information Technology firms based in Technopark on the charge of drunken driving and riotous behaviour. The Sub-Inspector, Kazhakkuttom, K.M. Prasad, said the accused were arrested from near the venue of the ongoing cultural festival at Technopark. He said they were booked under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act. The detained persons were granted bail from the police station on Thursday morning.

Woman hospitalised

A 35-year-old woman, who is said to have set herself aflame after dousing herself with kerosene, was admitted to Medical College Hospital with almost 80 per cent burns on Thursday.
