Five candidates each in Manjeri, Ponnani

MALAPPURAM, APRIL 24. Five candidates each were in the fray in Manjeri and Ponnani Lok Sabha constituencies when the process of scrutiny of nomination papers was completed in the district today. The number of candidates in the fray in Manjeri has been reduced from eight to five following the non-consideration of nomination papers of dummy candidates of the IUML, CPI(M) and BJP. The dummy candidates' nominations were not considered as the papers of K.P.A. Majeed (IUML), T.K. Hamsa (CPI-M), and Uma Unni (BJP) were found valid during scrutiny. The other candidates in the fray are Abdul Muneer (BSP) and Anwarshakeel Omar (independent).

The candidates in Ponnani after the scrutiny of nomination papers are P.P. Suneer (CPI), E. Ahmed (IUML), N. Aravindan (BJP), Oorothodi Kunhumuhammed (PDP) and Abdul Saleem (independent). The nominations of dummy candidates of CPI, IUML and BJP were not considered.

The nomination papers of one independent candidate, K. Sadanandan was rejected. The District Collector, M. Sivasankar, said that Mr. Sadanandan's nomination papers were rejected as he figured among the list of candidates who were disqualified by the Election Commission.
