Fishmeal plant to be opened today

Fisheries Minister K. Babu will inaugurate Matsyafed’s fishmeal plant at Arattupuzha in Alappuzha district on Sunday. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala will preside over the function.

Matsyafed chairman V. Dinakaran said here on Saturday that the plant has the capacity to produce 80 tonnes of fishmeal daily. The plant will find a solution for the present practice of drying fish in unhygienic conditions on open beaches leading to environment pollution. Mr. Dinakaran said that the renovation of fishnet factory at Dr. Salim Ali Road near Marine Drive here will be inaugurated on February 23.

Matsyafed will utilise Rs.5.5 crore assistance to renovate the factory.

Aqua tourism centre

The Fisheries Minister will inaugurate the aqua tourism centre in Palaikkari near Vaikom on February 23. It is being developed with the Rs.3.5 crore assistance from the Tourism Department.
