First phase of fisheries census complete

KOCHI: The first phase of the National Marine Fisheries census in the maritime States of the country has been completed, said a press release here from the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) on Saturday.

The census was launched here on April 15 by Ajit Bhattacharya, Additional Secretary, Fisheries, Government of India. The census operations were conducted simultaneously in all the maritime states of the country, said the press release.

The second phase of the census will be conducted in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry towards the end of this year.

A total of 1,116 enumerators were selected for the first phase of the marine census operations.
