Elections to local bodies in September

Staff reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The elections to the local bodies in the State would be held in September as scheduled, according to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

Replying to questions in the Assembly today, he said it was obligatory on the part of the Government to enable the State Election Commission to hold the elections as per norms and on time.

The decisions taken at the all- party meeting held recently would be implemented without fail.

On the question of inter-State sharing of waters of the Mullaperiyar dam, Kerala's interests would be protected at all costs, the Chief Minister said in reply to another question.

The demand raised by Tamil Nadu to raise the height of the dam from the existing 136 feet to 152 feet, would not be conceded, as it was detrimental to the interests of the State.

Smart City

In reply to another question, Mr. Chandy said that no MoU has yet been signed with the Dubai Internet City (DIC) for the setting up of the Smart City in Kochi. Only a draft proposal has been drawn up.
