Thiruvananthapuram: The Government Secretariat on Friday witnessed two violent demonstrations by Opposition organisations demanding the resignation of Health Minister K.K. Ramachandran.

As many as 10 DYFI activists barged into the Secretariat around 11.30 a.m. and staged a protest outside the Chief Minister's office accusing the Government of shielding the Health Minister, against whom there were several corruption charges.

The DYFI activists, led by district president S.S. Raja Lal, said that the Lok Ayukta had made an "adverse remark" against the minister in one particular case. The DYFI workers grappled with the police for sometime before courting arrest.

Around 12 p.m., as many as 24 Democratic Indira Congress (Karunkaran) attempted to enter the office of the Health Minister. They were arrested and removed by the police.

The Cantonment police have registered a case of unlawful assembly and trespass in connection with the two protests.

A group of Yuva Janata Dal workers burned an effigy of the Health Minister in front of the Secretariat gate.
