DYFI protest against `blade' mafia

KOTTAYAM Dec. 24. The DYFI would intensify its struggle against the increasing nexus between private money lenders (`blade' companies) and the underworld, said its district secretary, Anil Kumar, talking to mediapersons here today.

He said the DYFI would organise an evening dharna at Kuravilangad on December 26 as a part of this move.

This would be followed by protest marches with lighted torches the next day in all regions in the district.

The agitation would be formally launched from the house of Varsha, a victim of the `blade' mafia's atrocities in Kuravilangad, whose hair had been cut off as a mark of warning by their henchmen.

DYFI workers would take out a march on December 31 from the victim's house in Ettumanur town, he said.

The DYFI would also form `jana jagratha samithys' in all places and organise popular resistance movements against the activities of the `blade' companies, he said.

The DYFI president, Regi Zacharia, alleged that ruling front MLAs were extending covert support to the `blade' mafia in the district.
